It’s hard to believe that it has been 25 years since the PRS-1 Speedbird was launched — a model that many consider to be the first true microbrand watch.

The Speedbird was an instant success, and today, examples of the PRS-1 command prices far in excess of their original selling price — when they can be found at all.

Although the PRS-1 sold out quickly, many people said they had passed on it simply because it didn’t have a date. In response, the Speedbird II was launched in 2002, offering a date display and a choice of black or ivory dials.

2001 — Speedbird PRS-1 introduced
300 pieces produced

2002 — Speedbird II PRS-7 introduced
300 pieces produced in total, with black and ivory dial options

2003 — “Goldbird” introduced
38 pieces produced in total, with three dial designs available

The Speedbird III has been three years in the planning, design and production, and represents the highest specification ever offered in the Speedbird range.

It features an impressive anti-magnetic rating of 20,000 A/m, a superb stainless-steel bracelet, and has been tested for negative pressure down to 0.4 ATM — an important detail designed to prevent the crystal from “popping” at altitude.

The crown tube is also screwed directly into the case, exactly as you would find on watches costing many times more.

Every detail of the Speedbird III has been considered with the same philosophy that defined the original: a serious, purpose-built watch, engineered without unnecessary compromise.

The Bracelet screws are not fully tightened to allow for easy first-time adjustment.
After sizing please tighten and we suggest using a removable threadlock such as
Loctite Blue 242 to secure the screws.
