The history of this one is quite interesting. The strap was born following a brief flash of Bond looking at his Rolex Submariner 6538 or 5510 in the film "Goldfinger". Note how it appears to be a 16 mm strap on 20 mm lugs? Don't you just hate to see that?

A few years ago, GQ magazine ran an article on Bond's gizmos and gadgets, including his watches and GQ approached the MoD strap manufacturer to commission the "Bond" strap for a competition. The strap they commissioned was a simple flat strap, not the NATO style which you now see here.

The colours are actually the genuine regimental colours of the General Service Corps, and it is appropriate that a spy would be attached to the General Service Corps. Military (Army) personnel employed on covert intelligence duties were seconded to the GSC whilst employed on these duties but Commander Bond RN would never have been seconded to the GSC as a Royal Navy officer. They are also the colours of a London Gentleman's private club.

Superior 1.2mm thick woven nylon ribbon with bead blasted solid stainless steel fittings. All joints are securely heat-welded and tested. All holes and strap ends are heat sealed. The MoD specification calls for heat welding: straps which are merely stitched do not meet the specification.

All the hardware is bead-blasted solid stainless steel. NOTE: the 22mm (only) is now supplied with the new hardware.

The holes in these straps are perfectly burnt and sealed with no melted nylon "scabs". There are 17 holes, starting 25mm from the end of the strap and spaced every 7mm. This means that the straps will fit all wrists from 5.5 to 10 inches.

Every strap has an overall length of 280mm, excluding buckle*. The specification calls for a 60mm spacing between the second and third rings (where the watch head fits) which is often inadequate to prevent the rings fouling the lugs on many of today's watches. The spacing on these straps has been increased to 75mm on the 18mm & 20mm width and 80mm on the 22mm width to accommodate larger watch heads.  Standard G10 style and also RAF style (without the extra piece and third ring).

Please be aware that nylon can stretch and also shrink so all measurements are +/- 5mm for length and +/- 1mm for width.
